Old Laurel Hill Church (Civil War Trail) 15301 McFarland Rd., Laurel Hill, NC; 910-276-7151 Historic church constructed in 1797. The current sanctuary, with its unique and beautiful illuminated tower, was built in 1856. In March of 1865, General Sherman encamped at the church on his Civil War march through North Carolina. Visitors can still see the signatures his Union soldiers left inscribed in plaster in the church tower.
