| The Union threat in Wilmington led to the relocation of railroad yards to a site in downtown Laurinburg. The tactic was ultimately unsuccessful, as the Laurinburg depot and rail yards were later destroyed by Sherman’s Army. Downtown Laurinburg has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. |
